A city of old tobacco-warehouse conversions and century-old neighborhoods, where renovation work has to respect what came before it.
Working in Durham
Durham's neighborhoods closest to downtown, Trinity Park, Old West Durham, Watts-Hillandale, are built up with early-twentieth-century bungalows and foursquares that share a lot of DNA with the mill housing we know from Alamance County, but with their own local details. Deep front porches, tall narrow windows, and original heart pine floors are common, and a lot of our work here is about extending the life of that material rather than tearing it out.
Additions are a regular request in these older neighborhoods, where families outgrow a three-bedroom bungalow but want the new construction to look like it was always there. That means matching roof pitch, siding reveal, and trim profile closely enough that the addition reads as part of the original house rather than a box tacked onto the back of it.
Further out, Durham has decades of ranch and split-level housing along with newer subdivisions toward Research Triangle Park, and the work there looks more familiar, window replacement, siding, deck construction, and the kind of kitchen and bathroom updates that bring a dated house current without changing its bones.
Durham is a real drive from our Burlington shop, so we schedule projects there in full days and put together a detailed written scope before work starts, covering material, sequencing, and site logistics on lots that are often tighter than what we see closer to home.
