Carpentry & remodeling
in Hillsborough, NC
One of North Carolina's oldest towns, with a protected historic district that demands careful, period-correct carpentry.
Working in Hillsborough
Hillsborough has one of the best-preserved historic districts in the state, with buildings dating back to the eighteenth century. Carpentry here carries real responsibility — original material is irreplaceable, and work that would be perfectly acceptable in a new subdivision is simply wrong in a house this old.
Our approach in the district is repair first. Where a piece of original trim, a porch column, or a section of siding can be consolidated and repaired, that is almost always the right answer. Where material is genuinely beyond saving, we reproduce the profile rather than substituting the nearest modern equivalent.
Homeowners in historic properties often face review requirements for exterior work, and we plan around that rather than being surprised by it. Interior work is generally more flexible, but the same matching standard applies if the result is going to look right.
Outside the historic core Hillsborough has plenty of conventional housing, where we do the same remodeling, deck, and built-in work we do everywhere else in the region. The town is twenty miles from our Burlington base.
