Working in Oak Ridge

Oak Ridge is one of the more spread-out communities we work in, with a lot of custom homes on acreage rather than the tighter subdivision lots common closer to Greensboro. Land like that changes what people ask for, larger decks and screened porches sized to actually be used, freestanding outdoor structures, and additions that have room to spread out rather than stack up.

Screened porches are a particularly good fit for this area. With more privacy and more yard around most homes, a well-built screened porch extends the usable season on the house without the cost of a full sunroom, and we frame and flash the roof tie-in the same way we would on any addition so it does not become a leak point five years later.

Fencing here often has a practical job to do beyond marking a property line, keeping livestock or dogs contained on a hobby farm, or defining a paddock, and we build to the loads that job actually requires rather than treating it as decorative fencing.

Custom homes in Oak Ridge also bring balcony work our way from time to time, usually second-story decks off a primary bedroom or bonus room, and those get the same structural attention as a ground-level deck since the failure mode is a lot less forgiving two stories up.
